HOT WOK Burner Flame Problems – How to Adjust Air & Gas

Is your HOT WOK burner showing a yellow, weak or uneven flame? In many cases, the solution is to adjust the three air screws so the burner gets the correct mixture of gas and air. This guide applies to the adjustable cast-iron burners used on the HOT WOK Original 7 kW, Basic 10 kW, Double 2×10 kW and PRO 12 kW. The HOT WOK Silver Line 4.5 kW is a different burner design and should not be adjusted using this procedure. What should a correct HOT WOK flame look like? When your HOT WOK gas burner is adjusted correctly, the flame should be stable and mainly blue, with a small yellow tip. The flame pattern should be even around the burner. If the flame is very yellow, weak, irregular or accompanied by a roaring sound, check the air adjustment and gas supply before cooking. What are the 3 air screws under the HOT WOK burner for? The three screws control the amount of air mixed with the gas before combustion. The correct air-to-gas mixture is important for a strong, stable flame. These three air screws are used on the HOT WOK Original 7 kW, Basic 10 kW, Double 2×10 kW and HOT WOK PRO 12 kW. How to adjust the 3 air screws Start with all three screws open. Make sure each screw is only just engaged in the thread so the air openings are not unnecessarily restricted. Open the gas valve and light the burner. Follow the normal lighting procedure for your HOT WOK. Adjust one screw at a time. Gradually tighten the screw to reduce the air opening while watching the flame. Aim for a stable blue flame. The ideal flame is mainly blue with a small yellow tip. Repeat for all three sections. Each section may require slightly different adjustment to create an even flame pattern. Important: If tightening a screw causes the flame to become very small or you hear a roaring sound from underneath the burner, turn off the gas immediately. Open the air screw again before relighting and readjusting. Video: How to adjust your HOT WOK burner Why is my HOT WOK flame yellow? A yellow flame can indicate that the air-to-gas mixture needs adjustment. Check all three air screws and adjust them gradually until the burner produces a stable flame that is mainly blue with only a small yellow tip. A small amount of yellow at the very top of the flame can be normal. The goal is not necessarily a completely blue flame, but a strong and even flame pattern. Why is the flame weak or too small? If the flame remains weak after adjusting the air screws, check the gas supply as well. Make sure the gas cylinder is not empty, the regulator is correctly connected and the gas hose is not bent, pinched or damaged. If the burner has previously worked correctly but has suddenly become weak, dirt or debris may also be restricting the gas flow. The gas tubes can be carefully blown through to remove loose debris, and the burner openings should be kept clean. Why does my HOT WOK make a roaring sound? If the air screws are tightened too far, the flame can become too small and combustion can move underneath the burner. This may create a roaring sound. Turn off the gas immediately. Open the air screws again before relighting the burner and make a new adjustment. Why does each HOT WOK need individual adjustment? Small differences in gas cylinders, regulators, valves and the individual burner can affect the final air-to-gas mixture. This is why the three air screws may need to be adjusted specifically for your setup. Gas pressure and regulators Always use the regulator specification intended for your HOT WOK and your market. A regulator with a different pressure should not be used simply to try to increase the burner output. HOT WOK burners are designed and approved for their specified gas pressure and injector setup. Common HOT WOK market specifications include 29/30 mbar in Denmark, Norway, Finland and Spain; 50 mbar in Germany and Austria; 30 mbar in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, the Czech Republic and Hungary; and 37 mbar in the United Kingdom. Find the correct replacement or market-specific equipment in our Gas Regulators collection. HOT WOK burner troubleshooting checklist Gas cylinder: Is there enough gas in the cylinder? Regulator: Is the correct regulator fitted and connected properly? Gas hose: Is it bent, pinched, cracked or otherwise damaged? Air screws: Are all three adjusted to give a stable, mainly blue flame? Burner openings: Are they clean and free from dirt or debris? Gas tubes: If the flame has become unusually weak, check for loose debris or blockage. Do not use a damaged gas hose, regulator or burner. If you smell gas, cannot achieve a stable flame or are unsure about the setup, turn off the gas supply and stop using the burner until the issue has been resolved. HOT WOK flame problems – FAQ Should a HOT WOK flame be completely blue? The flame should be mainly blue and stable. A small yellow tip can be normal when the burner is adjusted correctly. How do I make the flame stronger? First check the three air screws and make sure the burner has the correct air-to-gas mixture. Also check the gas cylinder, regulator, hose and burner openings. Do not change to a higher-pressure regulator simply to increase power. Why is only one part of the burner burning incorrectly? The three burner sections are adjusted individually. If one section has a different flame pattern, adjust the corresponding air screw gradually while watching the flame. Can I clean a HOT WOK burner? Yes. Keep the burner openings free from dirt and debris. If gas flow has become weak, the gas tubes can also be carefully blown through to remove loose debris. Always disconnect the gas supply before cleaning or inspecting the burner. Does this guide apply to HOT WOK Silver Line 4.5 kW? No. Silver Line 4.5 kW uses a different burner design with piezo ignition and flame safety. The three-air-screw adjustment described here is for Original 7 kW, Basic 10 kW, Double 2×10 kW and PRO 12 kW. Still having problems with your HOT WOK?
